Football: PC Runs Away from GA

By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

FORT WASHINGTON -- In the 132nd meeting between Germantown Academy and William Penn Charter, it was the Quakers that came out on top. Behind a potent running game, PC defeated GA, 41-14.

Both offenses struggled to get going early, but the Quakers capitalized on a short GA punt. PC took four plays to travel 33 yards and capped their drive off with a touchdown.

GA would block a field goal on the next drive by the Quakers, but could not get the offense started. Conall Sweeney '19 hit a punt that rolled down to the five yard line, giving PC terrible starting field position. However, nine plays later, PC was once again in the endzone.

On the first play of the second half, Edward Saydee (PC) ran 80 yards for the score. Saydee would have more than 300 total yards on the day to go with five touchdowns. Meanwhile, GA running back Trae Vance '20 ran for enough yardage to give him more than 1,000 for the year. He is the first 1,000-yard rusher since the 2014 season.

It was not until 11:55 left in the final quarter of play that GA found the endzone. Matt Brittingham '19 hit Hans Lillis '20 for an eight yard score to make it a 27-7 game.

The Quakers would score touchdowns on their next two drives before conceding a Brittingham to Tayshaun Mack '20 touchdown. Penn Charter would kneel out the clock to end the game.

Joe Kaminski '68 and GA Head of School Rich Schellhas, along with Darryl Ford (PC) presented Saydee with the Geis Trophy following the game.

GA ends the season with an overall record of 6-4 (1-4 in Inter-Ac play).
