FORT WASHINGTON--Germantown Academy survived the heat and visiting Cheltenham High School in Saturday's 14-3 win over the Panthers. (Gallery I / Gallery II)
With the win, GA improved to 2-1 overall (0-0 Inter-Ac League) and the Panthers of the Suburban One League dropped to 0-5.
Running back Trae Vance '20 gave GA an early lift when he rumbled into the end zone with 1:52 to go in the first quarter. Vance's touchdown was set-up by a 48-yard pass from quarterback Colton Niedzielski '18 to Mike Reilly '18.
The Panthers cut the lead to 7-3 before the half with a late field goal.
In the second half, with four minutes to go in the third quarter, Niedzielski (8-for-16 for 101 yards) hooked up with Reilly again, only this time for a touchdown.
Defensively speaking, GA dominated Cheltenham and limited the Panthers to just 16 plays in the second half.
