Football: Germantown Academy Surges By Blair, Moves to 4-0

FORT WASHINGTON -- Moments after grabbing its first lead of the day, Germantown Academy went into halftime against Blair Academy down 12-7. The Patriots scored on a touchdown pass from Tristan Machado '23 to Aidan Donahue '23 with just 18 seconds remaining in the second quarter, but surrendered a 60-yard score to the Buccaneers to end the frame.

Rather than dwelling on the mistake, GA decided that they had had enough. The defense recorded three interceptions in the second half and shut out Blair, while the offense hit multiple big plays and scored 28-unanswered points to give GA a 35-12 win.

After the half, the Patriots drove down the field with an 11-play, 67 yard drive ending in a 12-yard touchdown pass to Evan Spivey '23. Five minutes later, Donahue got his second score of the day.

Midway through the third quarter, Anthony Lara '24 picked off his first of two Blair passes to set up the Patriots in Buccaneers' territory. Machado hit AJ Towsen '25 on the first offensive play to take a 29-12 lead. GA closed out the scoring on an interception returned for a touchdown by Spivey on the first play of the fourth quarter.

The win moves Germantown Academy to 4-0 on the season. They travel to Peddie School on Oct. 1 for a 2pm road contest.
