Field Hockey: Patriots Open League Play, Tie Churchwomen

By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

FORT WASHINGTON -- The last time that the Germantown Academy field hockey team battled Episcopal Academy, it was a 2-1 Patriot win in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association semifinal. That result marked the first time that GA defeated EA since 2007. If Sept. 14's matchup was any indicator, the Patriots may not have to wait that long for another win over the Churchwomen.

GA led 2-0 at the half after goals by Sammy Popper '19 and Sydney Cameron '22. EA managed to bring the score to 2-1 in minute 43 before tying the game at two on a penalty corner with 10 seconds left in the game. The Patriots had four corners for in overtime, but the score would not change.

Germantown Academy is now 1-1-1 on the season, while starting 0-0-1 in Inter-Ac League play. The next game is on Sept. 21 at 3:30 p.m. against Springside Chestnut Hill.
