CONSHOHOCKEN -- After a rain-soaked 8-0 win against Academy of the New Church on Sept. 7, the Germantown Academy field hockey team took a trip to The Proving Grounds to take on Archbishop John Carroll High School. The game was back-and-forth throughout, but it was the opponent who came away with a 4-3 win.
GA controlled the attack for the majority of the first quarter of the game, but Carroll capitalized with a quick counter attack and gained a 2-0 lead after goals at 13:30 and 15:40 in the first half. However, Sammy Popper '19 cut that lead in half less than a minute later.
The second half started well for GA, as they tied the score with a quick shot off a corner in the 32nd minute. Carroll regained the lead in the 35th, and GA tied it again at 3-3 in the 38th with a goal from Ella Brant '21 (Sophie Towne '21 assist). The final goal was scored by Carroll at the 43:32 mark.
Germantown Academy falls to 1-1 on the year. They host Episcopal Academy on Sept. 14 for their first Inter-Ac League contest of the year.
