Crew: Patriots Put Together Top Performances at PSRA Championships

By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

PHILADELPHIA -- On May 6 and 7, Germantown Academy's rowers competed in the first of many big races that close out the season. If their performances from those days are any indication of how they will perform in the other events, some room might have to be made in the trophy cases.

The Patriots entered the last day of competition in unfamiliar territory. For the first time in school history, they had seven boats in the finals of the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association Championships. Out of those seven boats, two earned medals for their showing.

Andreas Moeller '21 and Alex Walkush '21 earned the gold medal as the top finishers in the Boys Freshman 2x group. Dylan Robertson '19 and Charlie Shafer '19 took the silver medal in the Boys JV 2x division.

The Boys Novice 4x of Diego Carrasco '19, Anthony Kostacos '21, Jamie Werther '19 and Ian Cummings '19 placed fourth in the final after finishing fourth in the time trials the day before. Max Donches '19 also took fourth, but in the Boys JV 1x. Elizabeth Wescott '18 and Julia McKernan '18 took fourth in the final of the Girls Varsity 2x. The duo finished fifth in their time trial on Saturday.

Isaac Wilkins '18 came in fifth in the Boys Varsity 1x. The group of Maylin Lindsey '20, Margaret Horvat '19, Elizabeth Berlinger '19 and Addy Campbell '19 also finished fifth, but in the Girls JV 4x.

Germantown Academy will look to continue having success next weekend at US Rowing Mid Atlantics. The competition is on May 12 and 13 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey.
