Crew: Patriots Compete at Stotesbury Cup, City Championships

PHILADELPHIA -- It was a busy weekend for Germantown Academy's crew teams, who had competitions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Normally, the City Championships are held before the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, but storms scrambled the schedule, resulting in one action-packed weekend.

Stotesbury Cup Regatta

Umang Mittal '25, Maloy Lafferty '25, Utsav Mittal '25 and Jack Wescott '25 finished the Boys Freshman Quad race in 5:02.610, placing them in sixth and in contention for finals. However, one team was allowed to re-row following an equipment breakage, bumping the foursome to seventh place and out of the finals picture.

The Girls Junior Quad of Livy Shafer '23, Sarah Beth Sandifer '23, Ryleigh Dougherty '23 and Aisosa Idahosa '23 placed ninth with a time of 5:46.240. However, due to a fast current and debris in the water, the early semifinals were cancelled, ending the day for the group. 

Blythe Berlinger '22, Rebecca Zaki '22, Liv Pacitti '22 and Charlotte Harobin '22 finished the Girls Senior Quad with a time of 5:43.860, taking 13th. The Girls Lightweight Double of Raina Bandekar '23 and Phoebe Caffey 23 finished 17th in 6:30.970. Brendan Page '22, Hassan Ayub '22, Max Rinnander '25 and Michael Jackaman '22 finished 18th in 5:53.510. the race was Rinnander's second ever.

Patrick Majors '23 and Max Goldman '23 finished the Boys Junior Double in 5:47.490, while the Girls Junior Double of Danika Staples '24 and Roma Reddy '25 finished the race in 6:41.820. Andrew Wells '25, Alan Liu '24, AJ DiFranco '24 and Chester Adams 25 -- all novices -- finished the Boys Junior Quad in 6:07.670. 

Haiden Bonczek '23, a novice, finished the Boys Senior 1x, a varsity event, in 6:13.280. The Girls Junior Eight, made up of Ali Ruane '23, Lizzie DiSandro '23, Saloni Bhatia '24, Lucy McFadden '24, Bella Mastrobuono '24, Elizabeth Burke '23, Jennifer Durnall '24, Gertie Lafferty '24 and coxswain Lucy Fassler '24 went 6:00.770. Grace Good '22, Jenna Nolan '22, Saanvi Bhatia '22 and Paige Whitman '22 finished the Girls Senior Four in 6:02.110.

City Championships

Bonczek was the big winner on the day, taking home a gold medal and a plaque in the Boys Gig/Novice 1x race. Bonczek finished in 6:06.39, more than 19 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Liu placed 10th in the race with a time of 7:53.02.

Umang Mittal, Lafferty, Utsav Mittal and Wescott finished fourth in the Boys Novice 4x race, rowing 5:12.72. Rinnander, DiFranco, Adams and Wells finished the race in 6:01.71 for 10th place. 

Reddy and Staples took sixth in the Girls Freshman/Novice 2x Final in 7:04.44. Taking sixth in the Girls Varsity 4x Final was Harobin, Pacitti, Zaki and Berlinger, who finished the event in 6:11.55. 

Idahoa, Dougherty, Sandifer and Shafer took seventh in the Girls JV 4x Final in 5:58.99, while the Girls JV Eight (Lafferty, Durnall, Burke, Mastrobuono, McFadden, Bhatia, DiSandro, Ruane, coxswain Fassler) took eighth in 6:18.6. Caffey and Bandekar completed the Girls JV 2x in 7:07.87, while the Boys Varsity 2x of Jackaman and Page took 11th in 6:22.28.

The Boys JV 2x of Goldman and Major finished in 6:18.09. The Girls Varsity 4+ featuring Whitman, Bhatia, Nolan, Good and coxswain Harobin) finished in 6:57.10.
