Crew: GA Begins Prep for Stotesbury Regatta
By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

FORT WASHINGTON -- Earning two medals and placing seven boats in the finals of the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association Championships is apparently not enough to earn a day off for the members of Germantown Academy's crew. Even though they had a good showing at the championships just a day ago, the rowers were back on the water on May 7.

However, no one was complaining. It is sessions like these that are helping the Patriots put together a successful season.

"They're working hard and listening to some coaching," Head Novice Coach Richard O'Hern said. "There's been a lot of hard work on the erg and on the water this year."

O'Hern is not the only coach to recognize the efforts of the rowers. Head Coach Lauren Lehane said that, besides hard work, there were other key factors that helped GA have a school-record seven boats in the City Championships.

"It says a lot about the commitment level they're showing and the enthusiasm they have for the sport," Lehane said. "The team size has definitely grown. The amount of talent and success has grown too. It's great to see."

All that is left on the schedule for the Patriots is the Stotesbury Regatta on May 18 and 19, and the Scholastic Rowing Association of America Nationals on May 26 and 27. Lehane said that they hope to put several boats in the semifinals, with a couple making the finals.
