FORT WASHINGTON -- Germantown Academy was facing a familiar foe when they got into the pool on Sept. 14. Just days after defeating St. Benedict's Prep at the Spencer Vespole Memorial Invitational by the score of 15-1, the Patriots welcomed the Gray Bees to campus for a regular-season matchup. While the final score of the contest was different, GA still came away on the winning end, this time by the score of 12-6.
Andrew Thompson '25 scored twice and Asher Sasson '23 once before St. Benedict's got on the board. Both teams alternated goals the rest of the quarter, with Nick O'Hara ' 24 and Thompson finding the back of the net.
Behind Finn Wentz '23, Sasson, Umang Mittal '25 and Thompson, the Patriots scored five unanswered goals to open the second quarter, extending their lead to 10-3. The Gray Bees tallied a goal before halftime to make it 10-4. Scoring came at a premium in the second half, with just four goals coming between the two sides.
With the win, GA moves to 7-2 on the season. They will host Pingry School on Sept. 16 at 4:30 pm.
