STANFORD, CA—Germantown Academy rising junior Zach Kohm '21 has had quite the summer. Earlier this season, Kohm qualified for the 2020 Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska in the 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle events. This past weekend, at the Phillips 66 National Championship, which was held at the Toyota Aqua Zone in Stanford, California, Kohm also qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 1,500-meter freestyle event by finishing in 15:43.48, which happens to be a personal record. The Phillips 66 National Championship (July 31-August 4) is considered one of the biggest swimming events in the United States. It features some of the fastest swimmers (high school, college and beyond) in the country.

Kohm finished 26th overall in the 1,500 finals. He also finished 50th overall in the 400 freestyle preliminary races (3:57.59) and was a reserve for the final. Kohm finished 87th overall in the 200 freestyle prelims (1:51.99) and 29th in the 800 freestyle (8:11.03).

Earlier this summer, Kohm earned All-America honors in the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle for his varsity swimming season at GA. Kohm finished the school year with the seventh best finish in the 500 freestyle by a Pennsylvania student-athlete, and the ninth best finish by a Pennsylvanian in the 200 freestyle.
