Boys Swimming & Diving: Landon D'Ariano '24 Named to USA Swimming National Junior Team

FORT WASHINGTON -- USA Swimming on Sept. 19 revealed the 72 athletes comprising the National Junior Team for the 2022-23 season. The roster includes 37 boys and 35 girls, most of whom helped the U.S. to 19 gold and 46 total medals at last month’s Junior Pan Pacific Championships. Among the select few is Landon D'Ariano '24, one of just two boys from Pennsylvania to receive the honor.

"I just want to express how tremendously excited and honored I am to have been selected for this team," D'Ariano said. "It has always been a goal of mine to represent the United States internationally, and I honestly cannot believe that this day has finally arrived. I’m really looking forward to coming together to train with the best young swimmers in the country and compete against the best swimmers in the world. This is an amazing opportunity and I feel extremely blessed to have been chosen by USA Swimming."

The team was selected from athletes according to long course meter times achieved between Jan. 1, 2022, through and including Aug. 31, 2022. In addition, all athletes must be registered USA Swimming members in good standing at the time of qualifying performance and at the time of selection, be eligible to represent the USA in international competition as of Sept. 1, 2022, and be 18 years or younger on September 1, 2022

In total, 61 clubs and 26 states are represented. Of the 72 athletes, 47 have represented the U.S. internationally while 43 are first timers, including D'Ariano, who said that he is "pumped" for the opportunity and hopes to make his friends, family, and country proud on an international stage.

"This feat would not have been possible without the support from my coaches Jeff Thompson, Donny Brush, Matt Cox, and Pat Kennedy, along with the entire Germantown Academy Aquatic Club team," D'Ariano said. "Throughout my time at GA, these coaches have continuously pushed my entire team to our limits both in and out of the pool. My teammates make me look forward to practice each day and are always there to pick me up when I need them. I can confidently say I would not be here today without any of them. My parents have also played an immense role in me making the team. If it were not for them, I would never have arrived at GA. Their constant, unwavering support is the reason I am here today."
