Boys Swimming & Diving: GA Stays Undefeated, Tops Episcopal Academy

FORT WASHINGTON – Germantown Academy’s boys swimming & diving team came into its Jan. 18 meet against Episcopal Academy with a perfect 2-0 record in dual meets. While they tried, the visiting Churchmen could do little to stop the Patriots from reeling off another victory. GA came away from the meet with a 114-72 win, touching first in every event.

The Patriots swept the relay events. Jack Maketa ’22, Landon D’Ariano ‘24, Brandon Fleck ’25 and Andy Zhou ’24 represnted GA in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and swam 1:38.05. They finished the event more than seven seconds before the second-place group from Episcopal. JJ Freeman ’23, D’Ariano, Fleck and Henry Morrissey ’22 went 1:30.42 in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, while Maketa, Freeman, Morrissey and Zhou took first in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:19.61). 

Freeman also claimed first in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:45.76. He also won the 100 Freestyle with a time of 48.66. Morrissey took second in the 100 Freestyle, going 49.33. Stephen Calabro ’23 (1:54.16) and Dylan Shapiro ’25 (1:54.57) touched third and fourth, respectively. 

First place in the 200 IM went to Maketa, who swam 1:58.69. Morrissey took third in the event with a time of 2:02.35. Maketa also took first in the 500 Free with a time of 4:48.26. Shapiro was second with a time of 5:05.11. 

Fleck swam 21.88 in the 50 Free and took first, while Zhou went 22.61 and got third. The two touched first and second in the 100 Backstroke, with Zhou going 54.78 and Fleck going 54.82. D’Ariano took first in the 100 Breaststroke in 59.19. 

The Patriots swept the 1-meter Diving portion of the meet thanks to Brendan Hodgens ’24 (274.05), Asher Sasson ’23 (220.95) and Gavin Zivitz ’25 (210.22). 

GA returns to action on Jan. 22 when they travel to Peddie School to take on the Falcons at 3:15 p.m.
