Boys Soccer: Trabosh Overtime Penalty Lifts Patriots Over Blue Devils

FORT WASHINGTON -- Germantown Academy improved to 3-3 in Inter-Ac League play as the Patriots edged out Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, 1-0, Friday afternoon in double overtime. The win came in spite of the fact that GA played with 10 men for the 10 minutes of extra time after having a player see a second yellow card in the closing seconds of regulation.

JT Quinter '25 won a penalty for GA after being taken down in the box on a corner kick with less than three minutes to play in the second stanza of extra time. Aiden Trabosh '24 lined up for the kick and put the ball by the motionless keeper. The result comes 17 days after the Patriots fell to SCH on the road, 2-1.

"We didn't want to go 0-2 against these guys," Head Coach Kurt Wetzel said. "This was probably the best game we've played start to finish. JT splits his defenders on a corner, and when he did that, they had no option but to foul. He had beaten him, he was going to get his head on the ball, and Trabosh is like ice in there."

While the Blue Devils never truly threatened the GA defense, the Patriots had numerous chances to break the scoreless tie. The best came shortly after halftime when an indirect free kick was awarded inside of the SCH 18-yard box and buried, but the goal was overturned.

Germantown Academy moved to 6-6-2 with the result and is tied for third place in the Inter-Ac with SCH, while Haverford School and Penn Charter hold the top-two spots. The Patriots will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 24 when they travel to Malvern Prep (4-8-1, 0-5) for a 4pm match.
