FORT WASHINGTON -- For the second time in as many games, Germantown Academy’s boys soccer team proved to be too much for the competition. After dominating Lawrenceville School on Sept. 21, 5-0, the Patriots tallied three goals from three different goal scorers in the first half to best Perkiomen School, 3-1, on Sept. 28.
Ben Creighton '26 got the Patriots on the board just minutes into the game, followed by a goal by JT Quinter '25 with 25 minutes left to play. Adrian Diem '25 found the back of the net with a minute to play in the half.
"It feels great, especially after the first goal," co-captain Cole Snell '24 said. "It's a boost of energy, everyone feels that and it's easier to play as a team. Being up 3-0 at halftime, you can be more confident too."
Despite the deficit, the Panthers did not quit and got one goal back with just under 27 minutes to play in the second half. Head Coach Kurt Wetzel said that while pleased, he felt the second half lacked the same polish as the first.
"The second half was a little less clean, a little less precise," Wetzel said. "Perkiomen came with more intensity, and we were under a little more pressure. We still had opportunities, so I can't ask for more, and after a 3-0 lead last week and drawing against Peddie, I think this is a wake-up call for these guys."
Germantown Academy chances despite keeping ample defenders back against Perkiomen's attackers up top. In the final 12 minutes of play alone the Patriots took eight corner kicks but were unable to convert despite multiple close calls. Perkiomen earned a corner with 30 seconds left in the match, but posed no threat to overtaking GA.
The Patriots move to 3-2-2 on the season, with a game against Holy Ghost Prep on Saturday. The contest will be the first home game played under the lights in the history of boys soccer at Germantown Academy and kicks off at 5:30pm. After that, the Patriots turn their attention Inter-Ac play and a match against Springside Chestnut Hill.
