Boys Basketball: Cold Third Quarter Dooms Patriots

By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

MALVERN -- Despite having three scorers top double figures during their matchup with Malvern Prep on Feb. 9, GA was unable to pull out a win. The Friars sunk nine three-point shots and outscored the Patriots, 81-69.

Jordan Longino '21, who had to exit the game against Pennington two days earlier with an injury, was back on the court and showed no signs of being hurt. Longino scored a season-high 31 points, topping his previous high by a single point. The freshman was a perfect 6/6 from the free-throw line and drained three shots from long range in the contest.

Brian Basile '19 poured in 16 points while Zachary Anderson '20 chipped in 10. Basile was 5/6 from the charity stripe and hit one three pointer. Anderson also got things going from deep, sinking two shots from three-point territory.

The Patriots started out scorching the nets, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and 23 in the second. However, the team went cold in the third and was only able to manage six in the third. A 19-point fourth quarter was not enough to overcome the deficit, and GA lost their second game in a row.

Germantown Academy will try to right the ship on Feb. 14 when they travel to The Hill School for a 4:00 p.m. game.
