Baseball: Pitching Impressive As Germantown Academy Beats Shipley, Advances to PAISAA Semifinal

BRYN MAWR -- Both teams were strong on the bump on Tuesday, but Germantown Academy defeated Shipley 3-0 in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association Tournament Quarterfinals. Sean McGettigan '26 started the game for the Patriots and recorded 21 outs.

GA got on the board in the top of the first inning after Lucas Albert '26 singled down the right field line, and Tyler Nolan '25 walked, each scoring one run. A ground out by Cooper Wilson '28 extended the Patriots' lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning.

McGettigan earned the win for the red, black, and blue. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking none. 

Jake Bulicki '26, Jude Gibbons '26, and Albert each collected one hit for Germantown Academy. Wilson led the team with one run batted in. Nolan paced GA with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. The team was sure-handed and did not commit a single error. Nate Knapp '28 made the most plays with eight.

The win pushes the Patriots into the PAISAA Semifinals, where they will face off against Malvern Prep, the PAISAA Champions in 2023 and 2024. During the 2025 season, the Patriots are 0-2 against the Friars, with both games being decided by a total of three runs. 

GA travels to Malvern Prep on Thursday, May 22 for a 4pm contest.
