Baseball: Patriots Earn First Home Win of 2023 Over Conwell Egan

FORT WASHINGTON -- Just one day after falling 4-0 on the road to St. Mark's High School (DE) to open the season, Germantown Academy's baseball team was back on the diamond looking to right the ship. The Patriots welcomed Conwell Egan Catholic High School for the first home game of the 2023 regular season, and did not take the Eagles lightly. Behind a six-run first inning, the Patriots were able to coast past their opponent to a 7-3 victory.

Zach Genovesi '23 drew the start for GA and recorded six strikeouts and one earned run in 3 1/3 innings. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the Patriots wasted no time getting the offense going.

Eric Cross '24, Lucas Albert '26, Will Irons '24, Tripp Capers '24, John DiLello '24, and Micah Wells '24 all crossed home in the inning as the Patriots cycled through the order. Irons and Wells also recorded two RBI in the inning, while CJ Bauer '23, and Roan Harrington '24 each got one RBI. Irons added another run in the bottom of the second, with DiLello recording the RBI.

Conwell Egan added two runs in the fourth inning, but were unable to get any more runs by Colin Minehan '25, who entered the game in the top of the fourth in relief of Genovesi. Minehan went 1 2/3 innings before giving way to Shane Tronoski '25, who pitched the final two innings, recording three strikeouts and no hits.

The Patriots are 1-1 on the season and will be back in action on April 4 when they host Lawrenceville School for a 4:15 game.
