The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Football Athletes of the Week for Week 1 of the 2024 season, with former football standout Jerry Griffen-Batchler '21 earning Special Teams Athlete of the Week for the Eastern Division.
Griffen-Batchler showed off his speed and agility as a punt returner in Bloomsburg's 35-7 win over Fairmont State, returning four punts for 70 yards. He averaged 17.5 yards per return and had a long of 22 yards. He went 15 yards on his second return of the game to start the second quarter and set the Huskies up at the Bloomsburg 30 to start the drive, in which The Huskies went on to score their second touchdown of the game. Griffen-Batchler's third punt return was for 16 yards down to the Bloomsburg 45, once again setting up a short field for the Bloomsburg offense to take advantage of and score. Griffen-Batchler's longest punt return came in the fourth quarter when he went 22 yards to get down to the FSU 40, though the drive stalled on the FSU-1 yard line. He also hauled in four passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns as a wide receiver.
In Fort Washington, Griffen-Batchler totaled 103 receptions for 1,605 yards, and 20 touchdowns from 2018 to 2020. His eight touchdowns in 2019 are the third-most in a single season in school history. Griffen-Batchler won the Geis Trophy after being named MVP of the GA/PC football game in 2019.
