Alumni Update: Jen Hoy '09 Helps Sky Blue FC to Consecutive Wins

By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

FORT WASHINGTON -- Following the United States' victory in the FIFA Women's World Cup, fans of the game might be searching for a local professional soccer club to support. Those who back Germantown Academy can end their search with Sky Blue FC, the National Women's Soccer League side stationed in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Among the 22 players for Sky Blue FC is Germantown Academy alumna Jen Hoy '09. The forward finished her career at GA with 110 goals and 46 assists before compiling 36 goals.

However, her knack for scoring did not end there. Recently, Hoy has been a crucial component of SBFC's attack, scoring goals in back-to-back games, both of them being wins.

On July 12 against Utah Royals FC, Hoy came in as a sub and found the back of the net in stoppage time. She blew past the backline, beat her defender with a cut and curled the shot into the back of the net to seal the 1-0 result. The win was the first at home for Sky Blue FC this season and their second on the year.

Hoy also contributed in the team's first victory on July 6, a 2-1 win over her former team, Chicago Red Stars. The forward entered the game in the 56th minutes and scored in the 81st after her initial shot was blocked, but landed right at her feet. It was Hoy's first goal of the season.

Sky Blue FC takes on the Orlando Pride on July 20, looking for its third straight win.
