The Award-Winning Belfry Club Presents...
The award-winning Belfry Club, the nation's oldest, continuously-run high school dramatic club, is proud to perform Rumors on Friday, March 8 at 7pm and Saturday, March 9 at 7pm. The Understudies' Performance (free) will take place on Sunday, March 10 at 2pm.
In 1988, Neil Simon needed to cheer himself up. The solution was a farce in two acts, set in Palisades, that shows a dinner party gone topsy-turvy. An enjoyable romp that has been staged countless times all over the country, this is one of Simon's most celebrated comedies. But it carries a subtle undercurrent of sadness, which becomes more clear when we set it alongside the events of the playwright's life.
The Belfry Club's performances will take place in the Arts Center Auditorium (No. 34 on the campus map) on Germantown Academy's campus. Germantown Academy's address is 340 Morris Road, Fort Washington, PA 19034.
Tickets for Friday evening's performance can be purchased at the door. Online ticketing is now closed.
(Tickets are $12)
This show has been unlike many others we’ve done in both that it is a comedy and that many of us play grown up parts of married couples. I’ve gotten to showcase my improv skills, and K gave us a lot of leeway with our movements, making our scenes feel very natural. It has been so interesting to act in a comedic nature, which has been so different from my past parts. The audience can look forward to a high energy show with a couple plot twists and definitely lots of laughs. Even reading through the script the first time had us doubling over in laughter!

For Rumors, there has never been a rehearsal where I haven’t laughed my head off. This show is fast-paced wave of comedy, so rehearsing it has been a huge exercise, both physically and mentally, training us as actors to stay quick on our feet and 120 percent focused for a two whole hours! There really isn’t a “lead role” in this show because every character is truly essential for the show to work, and that’s what’s so great about it. But what makes this show unique for us is that all of our Belfry cast is able to showcase their biggest strengths on stage, and I’m incredibly excited to act in such a hilarious piece of theatre. Seeing as this is my last show at Germantown Academy, I’ve been reflecting on just how far my fellow senior “Belfolk” and I have come as performers, and I am truly proud of each and every one of us. We’ve been there to support each other through the highs and lows, and I love that we’re going out with a bang. You truly don’t want to miss this show!

This has been one of my favorite shows to work on! I’ve been waiting for a comedy since the first moment I walked into the Belfry doors and in the winter of my senior year it’s finally come. It feels like we’ve been working on this show for forever because after running a comedy so many times you forget that it’s a comedy! But at the same time rehearsal’s felt like they started just yesterday and its honestly pretty surreal that my last Belfry show has almost come to an end. The audience can look forward to the actors laughing at their own jokes on stage (although they try with all their might to keep the laughter in), and hilarious facial expressions that’ll last throughout every part of the show. Folks should come out because this winter has been too long and we are all in definite need of some laughs!
