AP French Student Reflects on Recent Field Trip

Recently, the AP French class braved cold, snowy weather for an enriching cultural experience at the Barnes Foundation. In the days leading up to the trip, members of our class researched and presented information about impressionist and post-impressionist artists in French. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to visit a local collection-- the Barnes Foundation-- to view and better understand the pieces we discussed in class. We saw a few of Cezanne’s dynamic still lifes, some of Monet’s sun-dappled, watery landscapes, Renoir’s vibrant portraits, Degas’ ballerinas, and Matisse’s colorful, resplendent paintings, among numerous other pieces.

After visiting the Barnes Foundation, we ate at Parc, where we enjoyed some traditional French dishes. GA, with its focus on learning through experience and maximizing local resources, enabled us to meaningfully engage with international art and culture without having to travel far.
