Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades PK-12. Founded in 1759, GA is America’s oldest non-sectarian day school with rich traditions and a strong commitment to ongoing innovation of curricular and pedagogical practices. Typically, almost one-third of each graduating class goes on to pursue athletics at the collegiate level.

We are seeking qualified, experienced candidates for the position of Varsity Softball Head Coach, beginning August 2024. An Upper School Head Varsity Coach is responsible for the oversight of the entire 9-12 program, including playing a major role in the hiring of coaches, taking the lead in student recruitment, creating additional opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of the program, and working with coaches to plan student skill development. We believe this enables GA to meet the three core tenets of our Statement on Athletics:

- To strive to attract, develop, and manage talented, like-minded, and student-centered coaches.
- To identify players who would be a good fit for GA.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the instruction in the sport of Softball
- Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes in the sport of Softball emphasizing the students’ holistic development
- Coordinate the planning, organization, and direction of all practices
- Understanding of the rules governing the sport
- Assist in meet management for all meets
- Communicate regularly with student-athletes and parents
- Assist in attracting quality student-athletes to Germantown Academy
- Meet with the Director of Athletics on a frequent basis to review the status of the program
- Communicate with the Associate Director of Athletics regarding scheduling and equipment needs
- Comply with all professional guidelines as listed in the GA Coaches Handbook
- Embody and embrace the GA mission, as well as uphold the standards established in the GA Staff/Faculty Handbook
- Attend professional development opportunities in the sport of Softball and coaching
- Work with the Athletic Department to report meet results and promote the program
Qualifications:
- Previous participation in Softball at the high school level (college preferred)
- Minimum 1 year coaching experience (within a school setting preferred)
- Ability to travel to and from athletics contests and practices between the hours of 3pm-7pm
- Associate degree; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Valid driver’s license
