Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Position Purpose: The part-time swim instructor (SI) will oversee swimming classes at the pool.  The SI is responsible for creating, organizing, and instructing all the lower school and middle school swimming classes.  We are seeking candidates for a part-time position (up to 29 hours per week) to join our community beginning September 2023. This is a 9-month position with a competitive salary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 plus years of swimming/coaching/teaching experience
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and/or Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • Physical ability to continuously stand, walk, and/ or swim depending on the instructional needs of the class

Communication

  • Meets daily with the AD to discuss the progress of the swim classes
  • Notifies the AD of any significant problems in the swim classes
  • Maintains effective relations with business leaders, community groups, media representatives, and facilities personnel
  • Promotes GA in a positive manner
  • Maintains a close affiliation with swimming organizations such as Red Cross
  • Maintains close contact with the AD through daily communications
  • Collaborate with the lower school and middle school physical education teachers to develop and execute the swim schedule for the school year

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Prepares and distributes lower school and middle school swim class schedule to the AD and lower school and middle school physical education teachers.

Performance of Duties

  • Maintains professional integrity
  • Maintains physical ability to teach with high energy in and out of the pool
  • Complies with all Red Cross Swim Safety protocols
  • Exudes the GA Mission at all times
  • Positive role model for students
  • Maintains a professional appearance at all times while representing GA
  • Ensures that the pool is safe and properly set up for swim classes

Other Duties

  • The AD may assign other responsibilities and duties as needed
