Position Purpose: We are seeking seeking qualified, experienced candidates for a part-time long-term substitute position of Violin, Viola, Orchestra, and Ensemble Teacher, beginning as soon as possible and running for 14-19 weeks with potential for continuing through June 11th for maternity leave coverage. The instructor must be available Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:45am-3:30pm to give private lessons to 30-40 violin and viola students (1st-12th grades), direct the 3rd grade string ensemble, and the 4th/5th grade orchestra. The teacher is required to attend and lead performances. There is also an optional opportunity to lead the Suzuki Violin Group Class on Mondays from 3:10-3:40pm for supplemental payment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in development and implementation of Suzuki violin curriculum for 1st and 2nd grade program
  • Recruit, instruct, and retain students on violin (1st-12th grades) and viola (3rd-12th grades)
  • Prepare students for a yearly violin/viola recital and any other collaborations at GA
  • Demonstrate commitment to departmental engagements including collaborative interaction with performing arts faculty and staff
  • Collaborate with private lesson coordinator and other instructors on curriculum and scheduling
  • Communicate regularly with families and respond to issues involving private lesson scheduling
  • Ensure all rules and policies of the private lesson program are followed judiciously
  • Lead the Lower School Orchestra (meets twice a rotation for 1 hour)
  • Lead 3rd grade String Ensemble (meets 30 minutes once per week)
  • Prepare and lead LS Orchestra and ensemble students in their performances

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music performance or music education is required. Primary instrument must be violin or viola
  • Suzuki violin training through the SAA is required
  • At least two years of teaching experience is required
  • Strong work ethic, attendance, and punctuality
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Individual must be organized, and able to maintain a communication around scheduling
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children
