Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades PK-12. Founded in 1759, GA is America’s oldest non-sectarian day school with rich traditions and a strong commitment to ongoing innovation of curricular and pedagogical practices.

In accordance with Germantown Academy’s Mission Statement, the mission of the Germantown Academy Aquatic Club (GAAC) is to provide a competitive swimming program for swimmers of all levels. As a member of USA Swimming, GAAC strives to instill a true love and passion for swimming while developing the skills necessary to become a positive contributor to the overall GA community and to society. The four cornerstones of the GAAC program are Grit, Resilience, Reliability, and Ownership.
We are looking for qualified, experienced candidates for the position of Swimming Assistant Age Group Coach, beginning as soon as possible. Qualified applicants will meet the following criteria:
Coaching and Team Responsibilities
- Assists as needed with age group program
- Directly assist with the groups that are assigned by the head coach
- Provides input to coordinate stroke instruction and training principles for the age group program
- Has prompt attendance on all workout days
- Ensures that equipment is stored and maintained in an appropriate manner
- Establishes an environment that fosters a positive team attitude, encourages self-discipline, sportsmanship, self-control, and personal responsibility
- Supports the mission statement of GA
- Assists the head coach with the development and implementation of incentives to motivate athletes to achieve individual and team goals
- Assists the head coach with all recognition programs
- Promotes a positive self-image through constructive feedback to athletes
- Assigns lanes to athletes during workouts to ensure that all athletes get the most out of their training
- Checks the facility both before and after practice to ensure that the deck is clean, secure, and picked up
- Makes recommendations to the head coach for athlete advancement within the age group program
Communication
- Meets regularly with the head coach to discuss the progress of the age group program and to ensure that the staff remains united with a common vision
- Notifies the head coach of any significant problems in any of the age group training groups
- Maintains effective relations with business leaders, community groups, media representatives, and facilities personnel
- Promotes GA and GAAC in a positive manner
- Maintains a close affiliation with swimming organizations such as USA Swimming and Middle Atlantic Swimming
- Maintains close contact with the head coach through daily communications
- Publicizes meet information to athletes and parents
- Communicates directly with parents when an athlete advances from one age group training group to another in a timely and responsible manner
- Communicates with the head coach and team administrator in a timely fashion when an athlete moves from one training group to another or when an athlete enters or exits the program
Program Growth
- Recruits new club members through professional and community contacts
- Assists with the development and distribution of recruiting materials
- Assists and attends all fund raising activities with the club
- Actively involved in the planning, development and promotion of the club hosted swim meets
Administrative Responsibilities
- Attends all scheduled staff and administrative meetings
- Provides input for the planning of the annual budget
- Maintains continued athlete recruitment through phone calls, emails, and exit interviews
- Ensures that all awards are given out to the age group athletes or parents in a timely and responsible manner
Team Travel and Meet Responsibilities
- Attends all meets that are assigned by the head coach
- Provides specific meet information to athletes, parents, and staff members in a timely manner
- Communicates directly to parents, athletes, and staff members all important times and deadlines for swim meets
- Provides timely coaching instructions and feedback to athletes and is easily accessible throughout the entire meet
- Remains at meets until all GAAC swimmers have completed their swims or until they are no longer needed or until they are released by the head coach
- Assists with the preparation of GAAC hosted meets
Performance of Duties
- Maintains professional integrity
- Complies with the USA Swimming code of conduct
- Exudes the GA Mission at all times
- Maintains all necessary credentials to be a certified USA Swimming Coach
- Represents the club with the highest moral and ethical behavior
- Positive role model for athletes
- Maintains a professional appearance at all times while representing the club
Professional Development Responsibilities
- Seeks and attends professional, educational opportunities
Other Duties
- The head coach may assign other responsibilities and duties as needed
