Harkness Tables

The Harkness method, as any GA alum knows, is a critical component to humanities teaching in the Upper School. These custom made tables encourage students to express their opinions, foster their own voice and participate equally with instructors and peers in class discussion.

Information/Recycling Centers

Strategically situated throughout the Upper and Middle School complex, these centers represent an important connection between technology and sustainability. Flat screen monitors, featuring the day’s most updated student and faculty communications – from club meetings to game cancellations and other impromptu school alerts - couple with designated recycling recepticals to promote sustainable practices within our entire school community.

Long Jump/Shotput Circle

The field events have benefitted tremendously from our outdoor athletic complex re-arrangement. Designated competition spaces, like those for shot put and long jump, provide the Patriots with an enviable home meet facility and a natural host site for league and other championship level meets.

The new building design has afforded the doubling of student accessed computer space. As technology becomes more and more prominent, this strategically placed Computer Station in the Upper School has become the go-to location to the students.

Dugout, Softball

A prime feature of our fine varsity facility, the dugouts provide covered and dedicated team space during games for players and coaches.

Entrance Gardens

Our new main entrance has proven to be a hub of activity during a typical school day. Thoughtfully landscaped spaces feature small brick walkways leading to seating areas that serve daily as a prime spot to wait for a ride, catch up on some reading or to share a break with a friend.

US Faculty Offices

Supplemental to their classroom space, faculty in varied educational disciplines in the Upper School utilize the Faculty Office space as a place to meet with students and colleagues.

Classroom spaces, in every educational discipline, have been redesigned to maximize the close connections between faculty and students. Every classroom features SMART Board technology, dramatically increased natural light and a flexible layout for possible future changes in teacher methodology. Head Librarian Office

Located within the hub of our new Roberts Family Library and Technology Center, the Head Librarian’s Office signifies the leadership of this leading student research resource center and featured space in the new school design.

Human Resources Center

Within the renovated iconic Administration building, the Human Resources Center provides all GA employees with key support services.

Math Faculty Suite, US

Designed with the collaborative needs of our faculty in mind, the Upper School Math Faculty Suite provides office space for teachers to meet with students or to intersect with colleagues.

Meeting Room, MS

All glass meeting rooms are strategically placed and easily accessed by students and faculty for small group meetings, one-on-one continued instruction or study space.

Wingspan Display, The Preserve

Integrated amidst the budding flora and roaming fauna, you can see how your own wingspan (arm length) matches up with various species of avian life. The Wingspan Display is but one interactive component of The Preserve, and serves as the main welcome sign for the east entrance to the area.

The Art Gallery provides a spacious and naturally lit featured venue for the display of divisional artwork and art shows.

Art Classroom, MS

Placing a greater emphasis on the visual arts, new, brightly lit, airy classrooms have been built in the Middle School to provide ample room to develop the creative process for aspiring artists.

Clay Room, MS

Clay work in the art curriculum provides a tactile mode of expression for each student and this class space provides the state of the art resources, from wheels to kilns, to work in that medium.

Health & Wellness Room, US

A key component to the physical education curriculum in Upper School, the Health and Wellness Room provides a venue for the complementary instruction of proper diet, nutrition and psychological factors that contribute to the whole wellness of our students.

Faculty Collection, Library

Publication plays a key role in the professional progress of many scholarly pursuits. With a time honored faculty, well decorated with graduate and post graduate degrees, the Faculty Collection space provides GA with the opportunity to provide faculty (and past faculty) works from many academic disciplines to be utilized as a special resource.

Tennis Courts

As a component of our new twelve (12) court tennis complex, each court is built to USTA competition standard and utilized by all Upper and Middle School teams, gym classes, as well as Summer programs.

Each of the students in GA’s Upper School is a member of one of seven houses, named for some of the school’s most influential figures through our long history. The House Alcoves provide a daily hub for house activities such as morning meetings or for the students to gather during a break. Each space is easily identified by the distinct colored flag of the house marking its entrance.

Science Labs

Each outfitted with the finest available scientific equipment such as fume and filtration hoods, safety washes and showers, and isolated ongoing student –faculty research spaces, these new laboratories provide the ultimate educational venue for contemporary teaching methods of all science curricula.

Purposefully located at the entrance to each the Middle School and Upper School, the Division Head office suites serve as welcoming locales in each division.

Cross Country Trail

Runners will wind along the Wissahickon Creek, through Sisters’ Woods and up through the wooded northern boundary of campus, when running the newly designed trail which maintains portions of its traditional route while traversing some newly appointed features.

Faculty Commons

Faculty connections with students, and with other faculty, are the hallmark of a GA education. Faculty rooms were designed purposefully to provide a headquarters for our teachers to intersect professionally and to enjoy each other socially.

Natural Turf Athletic Fields

Even the youngest of Patriots thrive on these new fields, wisely situated on the campuses’ highest plateau and constructed with sophisticated water management systems just below each playing surface. These fields support multiple activities, from physical education classes to interscholastic competition during the fall and spring to the time-honored tradition of Field Day.

Technology Office Suite

Modern curricular technology has become the very nerve center for the nation’s best schools, and GA is among them. Located just off of The Korman Family Pavilion entry way, the technology office provides system wide support for students and teachers in every division.

The Terrace

Situated just outside of the Honickman Auditorium and Middle School Commons, The Terrace provides a unique outdoor respite in the shadow of our famed Fairbanks bust of George Washington. With café tables and chairs, The Terrace will be a popular spot for small gatherings and quiet lunches.

Baseball Field

Situated neatly on its own picturesque plateau in the outdoor athletic complex, the relocated varsity baseball field provides the Patriots program with a first class baseball facility. Complete with home and guest dugouts, bullpens, with the beauty of The Preserve just beyond the outfield wall, the baseball field presents itself as a featured facility.

Green Roof

Just beyond the doors of an Upper School hallway is a special location in the new building design. The Green Roof, which is partially covered with vegetation growing over a waterproofing membrane, offers the ability to retain and utilize rainwater and contribute to the overall insulation of the building. The Green Roof is symbolic of GA’s renewed commitment to environmental sustainability, while also providing an enriching educational opportunity.

Music Practice Room, MS

Located in the ground floor of Upper School this specially designed room expanded space for our growing musical program. Featuring strategic soundproofing, rehearsal risers and instrument storage space, this room provides conveniently accessed prep space for musicians and instructors.

Softball Field

In an idyllic wooded corner on the northern boundary of campus, the new softball field provides the Patriots with a state of the art softball facility. Every feature, from the skinned infield to the dugouts and practice areas, meets varsity competition specifics and highlights this picturesque location on campus.

Computer Classroom, Library

This state-of-the-art computer center complements the vast informational resources of our new library complex. Outfitted with 20 individual work stations connected to a master mainframe SMART Board hub, this room provides the ultimate educational resource for students and faculty to fully utilize the latest in educational technology.

Arboretum, The Preserve

GA’s vast natural acreage provides a treasured asset many similar schools can only dream of having. Of the many components of The Preserve, the Arboretum specifically allows our school to focus on a place where trees are identified and cultivated for scientific and educational purposes.

Parents' Room

Constructed taking into account the feedback and specifics of the GA Parents' Committee, The Parents’ Room plays an integral role in our community. The room is at once a diverse workspace, meeting space, storage space and creative headquarters for our active parent leadership organization.

Tennis Complex

This twelve (12) court complex, designed to USTA specifications, provides home to our varsity boys and girls tennis programs and much more. Incorporated into the physical education curriculum in each division and a key locale for Summer Camp, the tennis complex provides an athletic opportunity for every student and for tennis enthusiasts community wide.

The Preserve

The unique combination of an arboretum and the newly developed six-acre wet meadow provides Germantown Academy with a natural treasure. The Preserve not only enhances the beauty and ecological balance of the campus, but provides a living outdoor laboratory for hands-on learning.

Administration Building

The lasting icon of our heritage harkening back to 1759, the Administration building is a replica of the original stone schoolhouse in Germantown. Newly renovated but staying true to its 18^thCentury roots, the building houses the administrative operations of the school to include office suites for the Head of School, Admission, Human Resources and Business, as well as The Farwell Room; headquarters for our Chinese language and culture program.

Athletic Field Complex

Strategically reconfigured to maximize use of our athletic acreage, the new Athletic Field Complex provides top-quality outdoor facilities commensurate to our successful programs. Featuring the 890 seat Carey Stadium, parking for 220, three (3) state-of-the art artificial surface fields, six (6) additional natural grass competition fields and twelve (12) court tennis complex.
