2017 Overview

Germantown Academy Day Camp & Summer Programs in Fort Washington, PA has been offering campers in the Greater Philadelphia area opportunities to learn, play, and grow for 48 years. With more than 50 thoughtfully programmed camps for children ages 3-16, GA continues to provide a safe and picturesque environment for campers to make lifelong memories and friendships.

The breakout hit of 2016 was the expanded Adventure Course, featuring nine new high ropes elements rising 50 feet up in the trees adjacent to the Wissahickon Creek, testing campers’ balance, coordination, and problem-solving skills. This 'challenge-by-choice' course concludes with a thrilling 100-foot zip line ride across the creek.

Summer 2017 features new programs for our youngest and oldest campers. Our Itty Bitty Camp offers a flexible transitional program for 3-year-olds, Adventurers Day Camp provides an all-around camp experience for 4- and 5-year-olds, and Adventurers Specialty Camps are tailored to specific interests. Experienced early childhood professionals lead each of these exciting, age-appropriate programs.

Also new this summer are Teen Caravans, overnight trips built around an amazing itinerary of travel destinations and sightseeing. Trips such as ‘Cathedrals of Baseball,’ ‘New York, New York,’ and ‘Sights of the South’ are sure to engage rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. These are in addition to our popular overnight Discovery Camps.

Plus, revamped Science Programs like Coding for Girls, Detective Academy, and Gene Smashers emphasize cutting-edge skills and responsible use of technology.

Of course, an awesome Day Camp experience is still central to summer at GA, where campers entering 1st though 6th Grade can take advantage of all kinds of art, science, and nature activities. Day Camp also features instructional swimming and weekly field trips.

Day Camp runs week to week, so there’s plenty of opportunity to mix in some of our specialized Summer Programs, such as Coding, Rocketry, Kids Kitchen, Art Quest, Summer Pops, and Belfry Theatre, which is putting on a full production of ‘Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr.’ this year!

Sports Camps are also offered throughout the summer, with specific weeks for baseball, basketball, field hockey, football, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and wrestling. Each sports camp is run by GA Varsity coaches and players.

Our History

Germantown Academy Day Camp & Summer Programs began in 1969 to meet the summer needs of neighborhood children in Fort Washington.

Over the next 20 years, many GA faculty members developed specific camps in sports, science, theater, academics, and art. Beginning in 1990, these camps were organized under one name, Germantown Academy Day Camp & Summer Programs.

Today, we are pleased to be entering our 48th year of offering campers in the Greater Philadelphia area an opportunity to learn, play, and grow in the safest of environments. Take a look around and see which of our more than 50 camps is right for you!

Our Campus

Germantown Academy is situated upon 126 beautiful acres, and after a 2010 remodel, the campus boasts the latest in classroom technology, athletic facilities (including three artificial turf fields), and environmental resources. 2017 UPDATE: GA now has a fourth artificial turf field and an expanded Field House after a successful capital campaign to honor outgoing Head of School Jim Connor.

The Wissahickon Creek runs directly through the campus, providing a wonderful natural landscape for our campers to explore. Walking and biking trails wind through the woods, punctuated by a ropes course and zip-line. The Preserve, also engineered in 2010, is the focal point of the nature curriculum for our students and campers.

Age Groups
