Day Camp

Our Day Camps at Germantown Academy offer an all-inclusive and extremely versatile camp experience for children during the summer. Our Adventurer Camp is for small children as young as three years old, through those entering kindergarten. Traditional Day Camp is for children entering grades 1-6, and Explorer Camp caters to adventurous seventh and eighth graders. Our exclusive Counselor in Training program is available to our campers who have completed 8th grade and have met all of the required qualifications (CITs must participate for a minimum of five weeks). In our Day Camp programs, the emphasis is on making friends and participating in a variety of activities, many of which will be new to them. Afternoon Day Camp is available as a PM combination. The Explorer Camp travels off campus for daily field trips.

Adventurers (ages 3 - 5)

A warm, friendly and supportive environment is provided for our youngest camper group - Adventurers - where children ages 3-5 feel safe and right at home. Our age-appropriate facilities promote cognitive development through interactive and fun activities. Each week, we introduce a new theme and incorporate lessons around the week’s topic. A typical day for Adventurers is filled with child-centered activities including swimming, arts & crafts, outdoor play, music, and science. All children participate in daily group swimming lessons. Our professional swim instructors have great success with helping young children reach their full potential in the water. Please note that all campers must be potty trained prior to joining our Adventurers.

Every morning campers receive an instructional swim period in our 25-yard indoor pool. Each camper will also have a recreational swim session in the afternoon. Our pool is staffed with experienced and certified life guards. Weekly themes in Day Camp involve, both troop specific activities in the morning, and all-camp group activities in the afternoon. A typical afternoon includes a one-hour activity period chosen by the members of the troop, and a recreational swim session. Afternoon activities range from any of the available morning options that campers cannot get enough of, to special activities based on weeks and themes. Campers from other GA programs will join the morning groups to form the afternoon Troops around lunch time. explorers (grades 7 - 8)

The goal of Explorer Camp is to give campers entering grades 7-8 the opportunity to learn how to take healthy risks while making friends and having fun. Campers travel off campus to attend wilderness excursions, face new challenges and enjoy recreational pursuits. Our creative and experienced staff supervises this safe and exciting schedule of varied summer activities. From hiking, whitewater rafting and rock climbing to a day at the beach at Ocean City, as well as amusement parks -- your campers can do it all! Our schedule changes each week and daily trips are determined by the director. Camp families will receive an email from the director outlining the trips for the week. Our Director works to tailor each week’s trips to the campers, the weather, and as well as the guidelines of our sites and locations. Campers may attend one week or all eight, but space is limited so early registration is recommended. The fee covers all costs except spending money for souvenirs when applicable. Due to the nature of the program, all campers should plan to bring a lunch from home instead of ordering from our lunch service. Every week is different, and the schedule may vary but an outline of the program is available on our website under calendars.  On some days, campers are required to arrive before 8:30 a.m., and will arrive back at GA camp after 4:00 p.m. Parents will be notified about those occasions in advance. Please note that it may be beneficial for siblings of explorer camp to enroll in Extended Day due to its’ unique schedule.
