Ethan Dayno ’13 named The Ambler Gazette’s Citizen of the Week

Senior Ethan Dayno ’13 was named The Ambler Gazette’s Citizen of the Week for his work in Ghana this summer in the paper’s Oct. 4 edition.
In July, Dayno spent three weeks in Ghana teaching English through Global Leadership Adventures (GLA).
“I didn’t know what to expect,” Dayno told the Gazette.
Dayno, who works as an editor in GA’s Writing Center, taught students between the ages of 12-15, who just knew a little bit of English. He was one of 21 high school students from the United States and Europe to make the trek to Africa this summer.
In addition to teaching, Dayno also helped the school construct a wall surrounding the facility.
During his travels, Dayno also saw first-hand the needs of the Ghanian people. He was taken to Father’s House, an organization run by a priest in Ghana and two other Americans, which helps free children from slavery. He also visited an orphanage, which was in desperate needs of renovations.
Dayno told the Gazette that “the work isn’t over just yet.” He said he hopes to return to Ghana as part of his senior project in the spring.
