With the largest turn-out the group has seen in years, GA’s honorary alumni class was the exclusive group to celebrate GA’s 250th anniversary on the true Founders’ Day – December 6, 2009. Thanks to coordination and personal outreach from classmates Katie Moulton 1760 and Jan Whittaker 1760, 55 members of the class and their guests gathered in the Common Room to reminisce, catch up and enjoy a full dinner prepared by the members of the Alumni Society Board, hosts of this annual reunion event. Guests were treated to one of Cornie Walton’s 1760 famous poems before Jim Connor’s 1760 introduction of the class’s newest members – Mark Greenberg 1760, Judy Goodman 1760 and Craig Newberger 1760.
The favorite part of the evening came as classmates, Sherrea Chadwin 1760 and Paul Savering 1760, led a gift presentation to each class member. As members of the Alumni Society Board, Sherrea and Paul worked for two years with jeweler Fred Straub '67 to create a unique pin that will help the entire GA community know who amongst us are honorary Class of 1760 members. “We love the pin," commented classmates, Jan and Jack Whittaker 1760, “What a lovely reminder of our honor of being elected to this special class.” GA’s Academy Club also played a role by helping to fund this gift.
