US English Teacher

Germantown Academy, a coeducational PreK-12 independent school with 1,100 students in Fort Washington, PA, seeks a full-time, experienced, dynamic Upper School English Teacher to start in August 2017. Part-Time MS General Music Teacher & Private Voice Instructor

Germantown Academy, located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, is seeking qualified, experienced candidates for the position of Part-Time General Music Teacher & Private Voice Instructor, beginning August, 2017. This is a 10-month position which offers a highly competitive salary.

Key Responsibilities

The general music teacher and voice instructor will teach at least three sections of general music to sixth, seventh, and/or eighth grade students, as well as give private voice lessons to interested students. Additionally, there may be opportunities to support Middle School choral ensembles.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in music education or a related field
  • Experience teaching general music strongly preferred
  • Experience teaching middle school, and a demonstrated desire to work with middle school students
  • Previous experience as a voice instructor and a significant choral background strongly preferred

MS Art Intern

Germantown Academy, located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, is seeking a highly motivated person with interest in and experience with art and art education for the position of Middle School Art Intern, beginning August, 2017. This is a 10-month position.

We are seeking an individual with a fine art background and experience working with clay, various drawing materials, paper, wood, printmaking, and technology. Sharp attention to detail and strong communication skills are a must.

The position is for the 2017-2018 school year. The candidate will work 15 hours a week, and may be able to work for additional hours as a substitute.

LS Librarian

Position Purpose

The Lower School Librarian works with Lower School library staff, teachers, and families to create an inviting, energizing, and inspiring environment for lifelong learning. This position is an opportunity to create and implement a renewed vision of the library as a community space that meets the evolving and diverse needs of all library stakeholders with regard to culture, programming, and space planning. A strong candidate should be a teacher-librarian who is able to build and execute PreK through 5th Grade information and reading literacy curriculum, a reader who is passionate about sharing children’s literature in a variety of formats, and a motivated self-starter with successful experience working collaboratively with faculty and parents. We are seeking a professional who is knowledgeable of emerging trends in lower school literacy education, the administration of libraries, technology, and an organized multitasker who is excited to work on short and long-term projects in every area of librarianship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and maintain all ongoing and daily functions of the Lower School Library, including overseeing the Lower School Library budget and maintaining accurate, current records of all budgetary transactions. 
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and MS/US librarians to develop and execute a scaffolded information literacy and digital citizenship curriculum through weekly library classes and project-based work throughout the Lower School curriculum.
  • Cultivate a community environment in which students, classes, faculty, and other stakeholders access and use the library space and its resources to their full potential.
  • Curate, catalog, and promote a robust, diverse, and current fiction and nonfiction collection utilizing the Alexandria system, as well as online subject resources appropriate for the Lower School community.
  • Support the leadership and development of the Lower School literacy curriculum, including independent book selection and direction, supporting and creating leveled classroom libraries using the Fountas and Pinnell system, and overall program literacy goals.
  • Foster an atmosphere of academic and developmental growth through reading, storytelling, in-class activities, vibrant and rotating displays, and Lower School events.
  • Evaluate and integrate existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning in collaboration with Lower School edtech coordinators and technology staff.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Masters of Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited program
  • 3 years experience working in a lower school library, or equivalent significant work experience as a professional librarian within a school setting preferred
  • Experience with library administration, staff supervision, and budgeting is preferred.

Curriculum Partnership Program College Counselor

Germantown Academy is seeking a college counselor for their Curriculum Partnership Program in Beijing, China. Based in the US, the counselor will travel to our partner school in Beijing a minimum of four times a year for ten working days each visit, and will work exclusively with CPP students in Beijing. Position Overview:

The CPP College Counselor will participate in all aspects of the program. S/he will serve as a College Counselor for 20-25 students per grade, guiding them and their parents through the college search and application process. Candidates must demonstrate a genuine interest in liaising between Western and Asian cultures. Proficiency in Mandarin and experience in college counseling is preferred. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering all aspects of the college search and application process, including but not limited to:

  • Educate students and parents about the college admission process, trends, and policies
  • Serve as a liaison with college and university admission offices
  • Coordinate college search process according to each student’s personality, interests, talents, and career aspirations
  • Administer training services for students on college/university profile analysis, essay writing workshops, and interview preparation
  • Help students utilize Family Connection
  • Provide selection, timing, and preparation advice on standardized testing such as the SAT, SAT II, and TOEFL as well as providing guidance and support for the PSAT
  • Conduct Skype sessions with students/parents as requested.
  • Maintain regular email contact with students and parents.
  • Assist with exchange programs between the two schools
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; college counseling experience preferred; strong communication/public speaking skills; excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills; ability to respond effectively to needs of a diverse and demanding student and parent population; knowledge of American colleges and universities, academic programs, as well as admission and financial aid policies.

Assistant Rowing Coach

Germantown Academy, a coeducational PreK-12 independent school in Fort Washington, PA, is seeking a full or part-time Assistant Rowing Coach for its high school rowing team to start in the spring of 2017.

GA Crew has about 40 boys and girls total rowing in a mix of sweep and sculling boats, with an emphasis on sculling as rowers mature. GA rows out of Hines Rowing Center on the Schuylkill River in Conshohocken, PA. The team practices from 3:30 to 6pm daily and has early practice on Saturday. Racing is primarily local through the PSRA series of Flicks and City Championships, the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, and SRAA Scholastic Nations. Regattas are primarily on Sundays from late March through late May.

A successful candidate will have to complete standard employment paperwork and a background check for clearance to work with school-age athletes.

After School Program Lead Teacher

Germantown Academy, a coeducational PreK-12 independent school with 1,100 students in Fort Washington, PA, seeks a part-time teacher to connect with and supervise students in our Lower School After School program.

Our After School Program is a camp-like environment, where we encourage kids and teachers to have fun in both structured and less structured environments. Teachers in the program are encouraged to bring their passions to share with and engage our students. The hours are from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.
