There is an infamous magnet on my mother's refrigerator that states, "Stop Me Before I Volunteer Again!" Each time I go into that frig, it catches my eye - why should one stop volunteering if the pleasure it draws is immensely personal (sometimes downright ego-boosting) or communally important? Shouldn't one derive pleasure from the "art" that is volunteering. Shouldn't we all find a way to do something that is not asked of us from each "job description" we follow on a daily basis?
Throughout each school year, I will be interviewing those self-declaring volunteers. It will be light and fun. It will be insightful and informational. But most importantly, these stories will let you know why these women and men do what makes them feel good - specifically, why they care so much about Germantown Academy to give of themselves.
I invite you to read on about our volunteers."
