Joan Paltenstein

Joan Paltenstein came to Germantown Academy in 1981 as a string instructor teaching violin, viola, cello and bass.  She has been at GA ever since with the exception of a short intermission from June of 1990 to September of 1993.  Joan now teaches violin and viola lessons, Third Grade String Ensemble and Lower School Orchestra.  In addition, she has recently been appointed as the Coordinator of the Private Music Lesson Program.  Joan has also taught in Council Rock School District and the Upper Dublin School District.

Joan holds a Bachelor of Music with Distinction in Violin from The Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, and a Master of Arts in Music Education from Trenton State College (now known as The College of New Jersey).

Joan serves as Concertmaster of two orchestras, the Academy Chamber Society here at GA and the Abington Symphony Orchestra.  She also performs as a free-lance musician in the Philadelphia area.
