LOWER SCHOOL DRESS CODE and UNIFORMS

It is GA’s responsibility to create an atmosphere conducive to good citizenship and studious inquiry.  Cleanliness, neatness, and good grooming are important contributors to this atmosphere as well as the appropriate attire that supports a young learner to function effectively in our school setting.  Germantown Academy values uniforms at all its divisional levels and requires each student to abide by the specific dress code designed for his/her divisional level.  GA believes that a student’s adherence to the divisional dress code is reflective of his/her personal and school pride and inclusion in our school community.  At all times, students should realize they are representatives of the Germantown Academy community and should act accordingly.  Special exceptions to the dress code may be granted by the Head of the Lower School; the interpretation and administration of the dress code are the responsibility of the Head of Lower School.  Since Lower School children are not responsible for purchasing their uniforms, family support of our uniform requirements is crucial to sustaining the expectations of the GA community.  Home and school must work together to guide students in the regard for personal appearance and the appreciation of the purposes of dressing appropriately.

The Lower School uniform is simple, comfortable, and designed to be safe for school work and play.  It is traditional and “timeless” in style, yet it allows for some variation in a student’s daily appearance.  Teachers will inform children if they believe any part of their uniform attire is not acceptable for school.  If necessary, faculty members or administrators will support compliance using appropriate discipline.  Parents may be contacted to bring the proper uniform pieces to school or take children home if there should be a continuing uniform problem.  To be on the safe side, it is always best to call the Lower School Office if you have any questions about clothing suitability.
