Training Room

The GA Athletic Training Room serves to enhance the quality of health care for student-athletes and the community of Germantown Academy.
 

ATHLETIC TRAINING ROOM HOURS
Monday - Friday

1:00 pm – 2:30 pm ALL Injury evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation
2:00 pm – 2:20 pm Tape for away games
2:45 pm – 3:30 pm Tape for games/practices
3:30 pm ~ 6:00 pm Athletic Trainer on the field

  • ALL athletes MUST follow the posted schedule unless special arrangements have been made with the athletic trainer ahead of time!!!
  • The athletic training room will be open at least 30 minutes prior to all home games (including Saturdays).
  • NO EVALUATIONS, TREATMENT, or REHAB will be done after school and/or on the field.  Students should make it a priority to be in the athletic training room during lunch and/or free periods.
  • Injuries occuring DURING practice or games will be handled on the field as they occur. 

Athletic Trainers

Valerie Thevis is the Head Athletic Trainer at Germantown Academy (GA).  She graduated from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in December 1999 with a BS in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science and became certified as an athletic trainer by the NATABOC in June 2000. In 2001, she earned a M.Ed. in Sport Administration from the University of Houston and began working with NovaCare Rehabilitation as the Certified Athletic Trainer for GA in March 2002. In addition to working at GA she was promoted to Manager of Athletic Training for NovaCare Rehabilitation in July 2005.  Schools that fall under her jurisdiction are Germantown Academy, Upper Dublin High School, North Penn High School, Bristol High School, Harry S. Truman High School, Central Bucks East High School, Central Bucks West High School, Central Bucks South High School, and Bordentown Regional High School.

Kate Easby joined the NovaCare athletic training team at Germantown Academy in August of 2009. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2007 with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology, and Rehabilitation Science and Technology with a concentration in athletic training. She became certified as an athletic trainer by the NATABOC in June 2007. She then went on to the University of Florida to pursue her Master of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology and graduated in May 2009. In addition, Kate has also acquired her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification by the NSCA in May 2009.

Joe Giandonato is the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach/Fitness Coordinator at Germantown Academy. Prior to joining GA in October, 2011, Giandonato worked as an assistant strength coach at Saint Joseph’s University and worked as an independent strength coach and personal trainer at facilities throughout the area. His background also includes working at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he worked as a health coach, working closely with CHOP's wellness program. He holds a Master’s degree in Exercise Science from California University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he studied psychology. During his undergraduate years, Giandonato played soccer and competed as an amateur powerlifter. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting. Giandonato is also a professional member of the American Society of Exercise Physiologists and the American College of Sports Medicine. Giandonato has authored over 100 articles, which have been featured on a number of media outlets.
