Field Hockey: Popper Joining U.S. National Indoor Field Hockey Team in Guyana

By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

FORT WASHINGTON – From Monday, October 16 to Saturday, October 21, the U.S. Women’s National Indoor Field Hockey Team will be in Georgetown, Guyana for the Indoor Pan American Cups. Joining the team in Guyana will be Germantown Academy’s junior midfielder, Sammy Popper ’19.

However, this is not the first time that the midfielder will be receiving some international experience. Popper traveled to Belgium as part of the U.S. under-17 national team when she was in eighth grade. Popper is also part of the U-19 national team.

During her freshman year in 2015, Popper scored 44 goals, breaking the school’s record of 26 goals. She followed that up with a 56-goal campaign as a sophomore. Through 11 games in 2017, Popper has 24 goals.

While in Guyana, the U.S. will compete against Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Argentina, Barbados, Guyana and Canada. This tournament is the Continental Qualifier to the Indoor World Cups, which will be held in Berlin, Germany, in February 2018.
