Boys Soccer: Second Half Goals Push Penn Charter Past GA

By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

FORT WASHINGTON -- One goal proved to be the difference in Tuesday's boy's soccer matchup between Germantown Academy and visiting Penn Charter. At the end of the game, it was the visiting Quakers that pulled out the 2-1 victory.

"They had two shots, they had two goals," head coach Brendan Sullivan said. "We tried hard, we had a good plan and we used that plan, but that's it."

After a scoreless first half, it was senior William Combs '18 that struck first for the Patriots. The forward received a pass from fellow senior Oliver Buck '18, and buried the ball in the far bottom corner with 32 minutes left in the game.

""We were pressuring them more and that led to the goal," senior midfielder Michael Roman '18 said. "We made their goalie make a mistake."

However, Penn Charter would answer.

The visitors scored two goals in a three-minute span and held off the Patriots for the remainder of the game.

The 2-1 loss came after the Patriots defeated The Haverford School, 3-2, last week.

"Last game we were way more aggressive," Sullivan said. "The other difference was today Mike Capone was out. He's our captain, he's our center back and he erases all the mistakes."

GA is now 4-8 overall (1-4 in Inter-Ac play) and faces Episcopal Academy on Friday.
