Surprise Academy Club inductions of two of Germantown Academy’s long-tenured faculty, and one alumnus from the class of '52, were the capstone to a full night of toasts to new members.  Lauren Quaile ’97, Academy Club President, in keeping with the Club’s by-laws, initiated a call for nominations followed by a vote for honorary Academy Club members.   As a result, “I had the privilege of inducting Dick Shoulberg 1760, Peter McVeigh 1760, and John Asher '52 to the Academy Club,” Ms. Quaile said, “and know they will continue to contribute to the ideals set forth by the club's founders.”

Seventeen members of the class of 2011 were the guests of honor at the annual dinner to welcome each new member into the Academy Club.  Faculty and staff members prepared with speeches to both roast and toast each of the new inductees.  As part of the new process for Academy Club induction, each of the seventeen new members have been involved in activities throughout their senior year to learn about, and help prepare their classmates for, being GA’s newest alumni.  From soliciting designs for the official class stone, to organizing a class breakfast with alumni guests, to educating their classmates about the need to give back to their school – these seniors have been busy.
