1760s

Walt Hoesel 1760 and Katy Hoesel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and renewed their vows September 2 accompanied by children, spouses and granddaughters.

Chappy Hopkin ’73 has had a big year! Chappy wrote, “First my wedding and now my first grandchild, Michael Hopkin Aldridge! He was born a month ago in Wiesbaden, Germany.” Baby Michael (pictured) already has a GA hooded sweatshirt and “is being sublimely persuaded to become a future GA student,” Chappy proudly reported. In July of this year, Chappy was married to Mary Ellen Oniskey, a fifth grade teacher at Stackpole Elementary School in Southampton, PA.  The couple was married at the Corinthian Yacht Club and now reside in Doylestown, PA.

1980s

On June 25, 2011, Gump Whiteside '80 was named “Coach of the Year” for ice hockey by the Atlantic District and USA Hockey. The Atlantic District is comprised of Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Jeff Whittaker ’88, Jennifer and big brother Logan welcome Bryce Colton to the world along with proud grandparents Jack and Jan Whittaker, both class of 1760. Bryce was born on May 17.

Kimberly Corrigan Schwartz ’91 and her husband, Bernard Schwartz, welcomed their beautiful daughter, Vivienne Willow, into the world on May 15, 2011. Kim wrote, “We spent the summer at the beach with sand between our toes.”

Courtney O’Donnell ’93 wrote in to share her ‘six-degrees of GA’ story about being at the first game of the 2011 World Series pitting the St. Louis Cardinals against the Texas Rangers. “I was at the game with Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden,” wrote Courtney, “and found Tyler in the press box! Small world...” Courtney, the Communication Director for Dr. Jill Biden and a St. Louis native, was not only happy to meet up with her former GA classmate, Tyler Kepner ‘93, a New York Times sports reporter, but also thrilled with the final outcome of the Series.

Alumni Society Board President Debbie Carlos Mirarchi '94 wrote in with this announcement, “Luke Carlos Mirarchi made his grand entrance into the world on November 2, at 10:06pm, weighing in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and 21 inches." Deb reports that she, husband Dan and Luke are all doing well!

Corinn Berman Rocker '94 was featured in the November edition of Philadelphia Magazine. After years of helping friends plan parties, Corinn and her sister, Ashley Berman Markowich '99, launched Corley Designs, an event-planning company specializing in everything from birthday parties to corporate events.

Evan A. Sultanik '01 and his wife, Nadya Sultanik, became the proud parents of Sophia Sultanik, 6 pounds, 11 ounces, on October 11, 2011. Mom, dad, baby, and grandparents are doing well. Evan, Nadya, and Sophia live in Potomac, Maryland. Evan is a senior researcher at the Laurel, Maryland campus of Johns Hopkins University, and Nadya is a project engineer for Lockheed Martin in Arlington, Virginia.

D. Scott Brown '03 was a keynote speaker at The Singularity Summit in New York, discussing his Artificial Intelligence startup. Speakers also included the founders of PayPal and Skype, Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings, visionary scientist Steven Wolfram, and the creator of IBM's Watson. Also in attendance from GA were Geoff Anders '98 and Steve Brown '99

The engagement and marriage story of Ruth Bushnell Toner ’03 and Simon Fiorucci was featured in the October 14, 2011 edition of the New York Times.

Lauren Gillespie ’04 married Edward McCusker on August 6, 2011 at St. Thomas of Villanova church on the campus of Villanova University, where Lauren and Edward met as undergraduates. Kellye DeSantis ’04 and Tom Adelman ’04 were in attendance as members of the bridal party!

Leigh Scherrer ’05 was recently engaged to Mikhail Nakhimovich. Leigh and Mike are both 2009 graduates of Penn State University, where Leigh majored in Sociology and Mike in Information Science and Technology. Leigh is currently a Foundation Associate at the Fannie E. Rippel Foundation, a private healthcare philanthropy in Morristown, New Jersey, where her responsibilities include programmatic support, communications development, and grants administration. Leigh and Mike reside in Jersey City, New Jersey and are planning to be married in the summer of 2012.

In less than one year with King Design, a creative agency outside of Philadelphia, Elizabeth Li ‘06 was promoted to Strategy Manager, a position created for her. She also attends graduate school in the evenings at Temple University, seeking an M.S. in Communication Management.
