Laura Martin is a true Germantown Academy lifer. A graduate of the Class of 1982, she often tells families that she is “living the same life twice.” As a student, Laura was involved in all aspects of school life including sports, performing arts, and student government. She most enjoyed her membership in the Philomonian Society, a service organization that included conducting admission tours. Laura is honored to have received many awards while at GA including induction to the Cum Laude Society and the Beard Award for “fostering the goals and cherishing the traditions of Germantown Academy” at Graduation. She went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in nursing from Georgetown University and stayed in the D.C. area to work at the National Institutes of Health. She moved back to the Philadelphia area and worked in several local hospitals as a nurse in psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation and long term care.
Laura returned to GA in 1994 as the Assistant to the Director of Admission and has had several positions within the department since that time. She spent many years coordinating the Lower School admission process as the Associate Director of Admission and she currently serves as the Director of Middle and Upper School Admission. Throughout her tenure, Laura has directed view book productions, assisted in marketing and advertising initiatives, served on various school wide committees, developed outreach and retention initiatives and taught in all 3 divisions. Laura helps to manage the Patriot Ambassador Program of student volunteers and coordinates the Admission Parent Ambassadors who assist in admission efforts as Parent Callers, Parent Tour Guides and Parent Hosts. She fully enjoys these roles as they most closely align with her GA days. Laura has been an officer on the Alumni Society Board, is a past president of the Academy Club and has served on the Board of Trustees. As a GA parent of two graduates and a current Middle School student, she has been an active participant with the GA Parents' Committee, serving as a class co-chair and standing committee chair and the annual presenter of the Carol R. Buckley Parent Volunteer Award. Laura was named a Distinguished Achievement Award winner in 2008.
Passionate about education and the growth and development of children, Laura is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Education at Gwynedd Mercy University. Her experiences as a nurse, educator and mother combined with her interest in research have led her on a mission to ensure all children receive their best social, emotional and academic experience.
