Germantown Academy seeks students whose ideas, ideals and experiences enrich our diverse community, regardless of their ability to meet full tuition costs. Our financial aid awards are generated by endowment income, foundation grants and annual giving and through tuition discounts. Using these awards, we try to meet the needs of students throughout the school.
Financial aid awards are based on each family’s ability to pay (“need based”) and the availability of financial aid funds set by the Board of Trustees. Applying for financial aid will not affect a student’s chances for admission or continuation at GA. The financial aid process is separate from the admission process. Families who receive financial aid must reapply each year. The amount may be adjusted if a family’s financial circumstances differ from a previous year. Financial information is kept in strictest confidence. We encourage all interested families to inquire about aid.
Financial aid awards for new students are made on a rolling basis, after the student has been accepted to GA, and providing that all the financial aid paperwork has been received by the Business Office. Late applications for financial aid will only be considered if funds remain available.
Need-based aid is available in Upper School and Middle School and on a limited basis in Lower School. Recipients must apply on an annual basis and show clear financial need. Annually, $3,500,000 in financial aid is awarded to approximately 23% of the student body.
