All matriculating students are required to complete GA’s admission process. Parent input, school information and admission assessments help us get to know each applicant and we use this combination of subjective and objective information to assess the match between prospective students and our program. Admission decisions are made after careful review of each applicant’s complete file, which contains information shared in the admission interview, observations from our teachers after a child’s visit to our classes and those of the child’s current teachers, testing results and school records. We intentionally provide a two way process so that prospective families and students are provided with the thoughtful information they need to best understand our program, philosophy, curriculum and community. Our goal is to ensure that our students are in the best position possible to be both happy and successful at GA by learning as much as we can about them, and by providing them the opportunity to learn about GA!

APPLICATION: Our application is available for on-line submission or as a downloaded document. You may also contact our office to request a hard copy if you so choose. Parents and students must remember to complete the accompanying Questionnaire forms, and students must submit an essay so that we may learn about one of their favorite experiences. Application Form.

INTERVIEW & TOUR: Upon receipt of your application, our Admission Office will contact you to schedule your necessary admission appointments including a personal tour, family interview and student visit. If you have attended one of our admission events and do not wish to take another campus tour, we can easily accommodate your request. The interview and visit are typically scheduled on the same day.

CLASS VISIT: The class visit day allows prospective Middle School students to spend a day as a GA student. We believe it is important for them to try GA for themselves. Additionally, applicants will complete the Otis – Lennon School Ability Test at the end of their visit day so that we may better understand how they approach problem solving activities. Parents are welcome to call their Admission Director for feedback about their child’s visit. We ask that you wait one week after the visit so that we can ensure we have the information you need.

TEACHER RECOMMENDATION: We require two teacher recommendations: one from your child’s current Math teacher and one from their current English/Language Arts teacher. Additional recommendations from past teachers and other disciplines are welcome but not required. Here are the Teacher Recommendation Forms.

ADMISSION TESTING: Applicants to our Middle School must take either the ISEE or SSAT national admission test. These tests are offered at different schools throughout the school year. You need not take the test at GA but rather must submit our school code so that we receive the test scores. Review the Additional Resources for Admission Testing.

TRANSCRIPT: We require current and past school records for each Middle School applicant. This information helps us to understand the academic growth and development of your child over time. Please remember that an application is not complete until we have the most recent grades. Here are the Transcript Forms.

DECISIONS: Admission decisions are made with the best interest of the child in mind. We strive to ensure that our applicants will be equally successful and happy at GA. Our decision notification for Middle School begins in January and we continue to fill spaces until our class is full. Read more about the Admission Timeline.
