In Middle School art classes, students use a wide range of materials in the disciplines of drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, collage, mixed media, and sculpture to make two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art.
We emphasize the principles and elements of art in our teaching and strive to have students develop a visual art vocabulary based on these concepts. Skills are learned and built upon in a sequential manner as students move through their Middle School art classes.
Effective ways to approach a work of art for discussion or critique are practiced using the standard format: describe, analyze, interpret, and assess. Art history, while not currently a formal part of our curriculum, is explored continuously through our assignments, discussions, and visual resources.
