The Kindergarten environment is carefully designed to support the real purpose of a traditional Kindergarten program where children can be cultivated and grown.
The social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth of Germantown Academy's young students is essential and so is the faculty's focus on helping the children learn to communicate, play and interact well. This important year serves as a bridge to a more structured program.
A balance of academic exposure and social opportunities is necessary for developing a well-balanced child who will be a creative problem solver and good citizen; Children think of their school work as “play.”
Thematic units such as butterflies, bears, frogs, Ezra Jack Keats, Eric Carle, and Mexico, focus on specific subjects that incorporate all aspects of the skills curriculum. Through an interdisciplinary and experiential approach to learning, the children are immersed in various aspects of each the chosen themes. Classroom teachers work closely with specialist teachers to ensure that each discipline is woven into these studies.
The Kindergarten team of teachers is committed to knowing each child and supporting and nurturing strengths and talents. Full-time assistant teachers and other specialists, along with the Lead classroom teacher, provide many opportunities to individualize instruction during small group lessons. GA is committed to a partnership with parents and encourage them to become involved in the program.
