Upper/Middle School Library Objectives |
|
|
|
| The Upper Middle School Library supports the learning activities of the school. Books, periodicals, videos, microfiche, slides, CD-ROM databases and the Internet are all available
The school’s mission statement calls for a curriculum that promotes curiosity, reasoning and questioning, imagination and aesthetics, understanding of others and oneself, clear communication, broad application of knowledge, and satisfaction in learning. To these ends the library staff feels that:
- the collection should build upon the interests and needs of a diverse school community.
- information should be readily accessible.
- reading should be encouraged.
- timely and interesting displays should be designed to foster student curiosity.
- research skills should be integrated through the curriculum, team taught by librarians and teachers, to develop increasingly sophisticated analysis of material.
- students should learn to evaluate and synthesize a variety of information in multiple mediums, thereby becoming life long learners.
- a quiet, yet stimulating, environment should be maintained for work and reflection.
